Ok, so what is wrong? I haven't heard anything since thursday, and I
know that several TD's have been sent out - I can read them in the archives...
However, judging from the enormous drop-off in messages I would
suspect that I'm not the only one having troubles...
cheers,
/ben

I've been receiving the XBOAT list but not the TRAVELLER one for
several days now. Has Virus taken over the Traveller server, or
is something else going on?

I haven't received a copy of the TML since Sept. 1 -- TRAVELLER Digest 398 is
the last one I got. I'm still getting xboat regularly. What gives?

SwrdKnght@aol.com asks about Fire Combat in TNE...

> Bob, slug pistol asset of 16, opens up with his custom gauss pistol
>on his opponent at short range. Now firing single shots (recoil 1) he
>could fire 5 shots (his str is 7) with a Difficult task, hitting on a
>d20 roll of 16 or less with each bullet. OR he could fire a 5 round
>burst (recoil 3) and those same 5 bullets would only hit on a roll of
>4 or less on d20 roll. Is this correct?

Yes

>and if so, why?!?! It makes no sense to me...
I feel the same way about the virus, but I can explain the gunfire:

Bob, firing 5 rounds as single shots, is pulling the trigger once
per round. He has a moment to correct his aim between shots (only a
half-second, but something). He also has sufficient strength to maintain
control of the weapon each time it jumps.

By firing a burst, Bob pulls the trigger once and all five bullets spit,
probably in the same second. No chance to re-establish control of the
weapon, which keeps bucking in his hand. Note that in the same time
period, be COULD fire multiple bursts if he so chose. He can fire two
bursts (10 bullets) without penalty and up to 20 bullets with penalties
for inaccuracy (the weapon is bucking quite a bit!).

Generally, burst fire for Bob would only be worthwhile if he was shooting
at multiple enemies in an enclosed space - like in a ships corridor at
multiple charging enemies. In such a case, even though he loses the
probablity of hitting his primary target (due to increased difficulty),
he is putting a lot of bullets in a small space where other enemies can
intersect them...

Also, if Bob is more interested in keeping several enemies heads down,
a burst is probably more effective (if less likely to actually hurt anyone)
than individual shots.

					tactically,
					Ted

I have no explination on back that far. There was a data base fowl up that
occured Sept. 14 (Digest 414 I think) We are working on that problem.

HI all,
Is there currently any online message list or such that acts like
the old Traveller News Service? If so, where and how does one subscribe?
If not, would there be any interest in setting up something like that?
I have found that a "news" service like that (essentially the Traveller
equivalent of AP newswires), provided the articles are well thought out
and resonably well written add a lot of flavor to a campaign, as well
as furnish a lot of inspiration...
I'm not sure of the best way to set up something like this, but I would
guess that it would rely on submissions from all of us, and perhaps
be screened by whoever wrote the ones we saw in Challenge..

Comments?

Cheers,
/ben

Is anybody out there? I haven't gotten a digest in a few days -- is it
because nobody's said anything, or because I've been dropped?
